Our ACCA HVAC Design Procedure

We use Elite Software Drawing Board that determines the correct environment and lengths of the duct system for the most accurate end result. A design is not correct in any way by not linking the CAD produced entry method along with the load calculation software. By creating a permit package without this being done is what many other designers will offer you and has a much quicker turn around time, but again incorrect. We have the knowledge plus training to provide the best possible design to ensure comfort in your new home.

Designers check if standard single-stage cooling equipment with a single thermostat can provide comfort in each room of the building served by the cooling system. Adequate Exposure Diversity (AED) is possible when the peak-hour fenestration heat load is not more than 30% of the average fenestration load. For buildings not meeting AED requirements, a duct zoning system is necessary, while buildings exceeding 50% calculation require a variable capacity cooling unit. AED calculation determines the hvac design manuals and hvac equipment selection, using either peak load or average load.

Manual ZR is necessary for buildings with limited exposure diversity. Balanced exposures across thermal zones allow for a thermostat in each zone, with a maximum of 30 zones per cooling system. Multilevel buildings with a single cooling system need at least one thermostat per living level. Our designers optimally size each thermal zone duct system based on peak heat load to meet peak hour conditions per zone.

To complete Manual J v2.5, the team finalizes the manual D duct design. They follow the Manual J design guide covering ACCA manuals AED, D, S, T, and ZR before the designer completes the Manual J heat load calculations, specifies a comfort system, and performs the Energy Code Calculations. Intelligent CAD software links the ACCA design guides to the energy code software for efficient calculations.

The Manual D, T, duct-design CAD tool links each room’s information from the Manual J heat load procedure to size ducts as per the Manual D duct design and Manual T air device selection procedures. Our designers evaluate the actual duct area and mounting environment for precise graphics, providing critical data for air handler selection and Energy Code Calculations.

Designers select HVAC equipment using Manual S once the Manual J heat load and ACCA HVAC design guides are known. Manual S adjusts the cooling equipment capacity as per actual site conditions and the building’s duct system, ensuring the capacity is not oversized by more than 15%. It also determines the ideal air handler fan setting, indoor coil conditions, unused latent capacity, and sensible heat ratio.

Frequently Asked Questions

1 What types of energy calculations do you provide for Florida building permits?

We provide comprehensive energy calculations for the State of Florida, including those needed for existing home AC replacements/upgrades. Our services encompass ACCA Manual J (Heat Load), Manual S (Equipment Selection), Manual D (Duct Pressure Loss), Manual T (Room Air Device Selection), Manual ZR (Residential Duct Zoning), and Adequate Exposure Diversity (AED) calculations.

2 How long does it typically take to receive the completed permit package?

We typically complete your permit package within three days of receiving the required plans. This allows clients to quickly receive the accurate engineering needed for their HVAC system design.

3 How do you ensure the accuracy and effectiveness of your HVAC designs?

We ensure accuracy by using Elite Software Drawing Board, which links CAD-produced entry methods with load calculation software. This integrated approach, following ACCA design procedures (AED, D, S, T, ZR, J), provides the most accurate end result for HVAC system design.

4 Can you help if I'm unsure about an existing permit package from another designer?

Yes, we offer free second opinions if you are unsure about the accuracy of a permit package you received from another designer. This service helps ensure your HVAC design meets the necessary standards for comfort and efficiency.
